Throughout this month, the Irvington Police Department will be supporting the American Thyroid Cancer Association with its annual No-Shave-November as one of its members, Officer Estefania Mejia, fights her own battle against the disease.
According to the department, Mejia was diagnosed earlier in the year. There's good news, though — she has undergone surgery and treatments and is now "doing well," police said on Friday, Nov, 15.
To support the American Thyroid Cancer Association, the department is encouraging residents to donate to the organization as its members raise awareness with a pause in shaving.
Those who wish to donate to the department's GoFundMe page can do so by clicking here. As of Friday evening, Nov. 15, the effort had collected just over $1,500 out of a $3,000 goal.
"Every donation counts and will make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. Thank you for your support!" the department wrote.
